I picked up this ARC (thank you so much!) because I LOVE learning about monarchies and general royalty. I'm a history buff but I spend a lot of time reading for work (lawyer), so when I pick up a non-fiction book, I expect it to knock my socks off. Unfortunately, God Save the Queen left me extremely underwhelmed.First, I didn't understand the organization of the first half of this book. It felt uncomfortable; I could never really understand why I was being told all of this information. What's more, it felt random and disjointed.Second, there were multiple grammar issues, typos, and misspellings (most notably, King Felipe of Spain's name, which is even worse because it's a book about monarchies).Last, I felt like I was just being yelled at. The author is giving his opinion (which I expected), but his opinion is overwhelming. There's no actual analysis or impartial writing at all; I feel like the entire book screamed about how much the author hates monarchies. It was extremely uncomfortable, particularly because we never got a sense of why. There was no deep dive into any particular monarchy, even though he did try. Instead of a deep dive, we were given high level criticisms thinly veiled as "analysis."In short, I didn't like it and I won't be purchasing any book by this author again.
